By specifying your riding style, your custom shaper can choose a curve that best suits your specific needs.
Core Type
P.E. Dow Wavecore:
This core has excellent projection, great performance and works well with our standard stringer option.
NEW Toobs™ CARBON Polypro:
CARBON is a super light core with memory and flex characteristics unparalleled by any core on the market. With CARBON, your imagination becomes the limiting factor, not your board.
Stringer
We use 3/4" fiberglass stringers to help maintain proper rocker while adding stiffness and recoil to the core. A double or triple stringer option is available for those who prefer a stiffer board.
Rail Ratio
This is the ratio of bottom rail to top rail and is expressed in percentages. For example, a 60/40 rail is 60% bottom rail and 40% top rail.
Length
(Normally Between 38-46 inches) A "very general" rule of thumb is having a board that comes to your belly button. A smaller board is easy to handle while a larger board will be more stable. There's an extra charge for custom boards 46" and longer. A basic sizing chart is located here.
Length 46-50"
Due to the extra materials used, an extra charge of $25 will be added to boards 46" to 50" long.
DK Nose Rocker
This feature creates approximately 1.5" of rocker in the nose of drop-knee boards. Extra rocker was pioneered on the Toobs team by team rider Colin Herlihy. This feature is come stock on our Herlihy Signature Model.
Deck or Slick Bulbs
Raised grips added to the corners of the deck or bottom, increasing comfort and control.
Nose and Tail Bumpers
This is a 1/8", 8lb density IXLPE "bumper", applied to the core of the board to help protect these delicate areas.
Nose Width
This is the finished nose width of your board, including rail skins. A wide nose board helps prone riders by having a large planing area in the front of the board. A drop-knee board has a narrow nose due to the fact that most of the rider weight is toward the tail.
Width
The overall width of the board is generally determined by the type of waves you will be surfing. Wider boards work best in small, weaker surf as they provide more flotation to get you through the sections. Narrower boards are suited to bigger, more powerful waves.
Wide-point Distance from Nose
Measured from the nose to the overall wide point. Wide points further back are more suited for drop-knee or versatile riders...toward the nose for most prone riding.
Tail Width
Tail width plays an important part in the performance of your board. A narrow tail will make the board loose and easy to release for spins and quick turns. A wider tail will pick up speed faster than a narrow tail, but is harder to turn.
Bottom
Here you can add bottom variations to your board. All channels are 16" long.
- Standard channels are approx. 3.5" wide at the tail. A smooth, shallow channel design with a wider profile for hold in small to medium size surf.
- Narrow channels are approx. 2" wide at the tail. Designed with an optimum contour for larger, heavier surf.
Tail
Crescent tails are standard on many bodyboards. Gullwing and Bat tails add slightly more surface area without adding additional length to your board. A Gullwing tail is featured on our Spec model and a Bat tail is shown on our Ten series.
